How We Price — What Drives Our Offers on Gold, Silver & Coins
Every offer we make is built off the live London market — the same reference price professional refineries and bullion dealers use worldwide. This page walks through the pieces that go into a quote so you know what to expect before you walk in. Actual numbers are always given in person, in writing, after we've seen and tested your items.
The building blocks of every offer
Every quote comes from the same inputs a professional buyer uses: the metal, the verified weight of your item on a certified scale, and its actual purity — evaluated against the current wholesale market.
From that metal value we build an offer that reflects what it actually takes to turn your item into refined, resalable metal. That's the number you take home in cash.
Why every offer is different
There is no single flat percentage we can quote sight-unseen. What we can offer on a given item depends on the metal, the karat or fineness, whether it's recognized bullion or karat scrap, the size of the lot, the current market, and whether the piece has resale value beyond its metal content. Recognized bullion (American Eagles, Krugerrands, PAMP bars) is the most straightforward to evaluate. Karat jewelry, dental gold, and sterling flatware have to be sorted, melted, assayed, and refined before the pure metal is recovered — that work has a real cost, and it's the reason jewelry and scrap don't pay the same as bullion.
Collector coins and designer or branded jewelry are a different story: we look at what the item is worth on the resale market, not just its metal content, and evaluate accordingly.
No fees. No gimmicks. Ever.
Evaluations are always free. We don't charge appraisal, testing, weighing, or 'processing' fees, and we don't advertise a headline number and then subtract fees at settlement. The written offer we hand you is exactly what you leave with.
Bring a competing quote
We're a single-location, family-run shop in Lenexa, not a national chain. If you have a written quote from another local buyer, bring it in — we'll take a look and do our best to earn your business.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you match competitor offers?
Bring in a written offer from another local buyer and we'll take a look and do our best to earn your business.
Do you charge to evaluate my items?
No — evaluations are always free, whether you decide to sell or not.
Can you quote me a price over the phone?
Not accurately. Quotes require seeing, weighing, and testing the actual items in person. We're happy to explain how the pricing works over the phone, though.
Why isn't the offer just the metal value?
Because turning karat gold, dental gold, sterling flatware, or scrap into resalable refined metal costs money — sorting, melting, assaying, refining, and shipping. Those real costs sit between raw metal value and what any buyer can pay. Recognized bullion skips most of that work, so it prices differently than jewelry.
Is the current market the same everywhere?
Yes — market is a global market rate updated in real time. Any dealer telling you market is different at their shop is not being straight with you. What differs between buyers is how they build their offer against the current market.
