Is your flatware actually sterling?
Look for .925, 925, or STERLING stamped on the back of the handle or along an edge. If it's marked instead with IS, EPNS, A1, 'silverplate', or a pattern name only, it's plated and generally not worth refining. We'll test anything you bring at no charge.
How hollow-handle knives are priced
Sterling knives almost always have hollow handles filled with cement or resin to give them balance and weight. We only pay on the actual silver content, not the composite weight. We'll separate handles from blades in front of you and weigh the silver alone so you see exactly what you're getting paid for.
